Adopt Me!

This is Boomer, an endearing little dog with a big heart.  I took his photo on Saturday at the Coronado Animal Care Facility open house, where he was waiting for the right person to adopt him and give him a good home.  Doesn't he melt your heart?  He did mine!

Coronado Beach At Sunset

The sunset seemed particularly golden tonight, so I ran down to the beach for a photo just before the sun set over Point Loma.

There were still plenty of people out strolling, jogging and playing with their dogs at dog beach.

Today is the last day of Spring Break here in Coronado, so tomorrow life slows back down a bit!

Saturday Morning At The Dog Park

I wandered over to the dog park at the Coronado Cays this morning while I waited for my son's soccer game to begin, and found this playful pack of dogs.

You have to love dogs - all they want is someone to take them for a run and throw their ball a few (hundred) times, and their perfectly satisfied!

Adopt these Shih Tzu's!

These Shih Tzu bothers are looking for a good "forever" home.  They are six years old, well behaved, and even cuter than their picture.

Their names are Harry and Winston (just like the diamond magnate, can you beat that?), and I would have happily scooped them up, but my husband and dogs wouldn't have liked that much.

Meet Corky the Yorkie

Meet Corky, an adorable Yorkie I met on Silver Strand State Beach this evening.

  Corky has a bit of a a fan club in the Cays.  They call him "the mayor," and in the few minutes I spoke with his human companion, a car driving by honked, waved, and shouted Hi to Corky.

This little guy may be "vertically challenged" but his spirit is impressive.

Hawaiian Beach Dog

When I first spotted this little white dog, she was balanced on a body board fifteen feet off shore in Waikiki.  I was concerned that she might have been frightened, but when she got back to the beach, she acted like she'd had the time of her life.  Brave dog!

The second photo was taken just after sunset, and I think the sailboats look like they came straight out of a dream.  There is something delicious about the sunsets in Hawaii, don't you think?

Tomorrow I'll be back to photographing Coronado.  Thanks for your thoughtful messages this past week.  My husband didn't get to join us in Hawaii as planned, but all things considered we are very grateful to have only encountered a minor inconvenience.  

I send my best wishes and prayers to those in Japan who are struggling in the aftermath of this natural disaster.

Dog Beach At Dusk

Dog Beach was hopping this evening as dusk faded away to night.  Located at the North end of Coronado beach, Dog Beach is the meeting place for friendly dogs of all sizes.

There's a lot of happy energy here, and it's a hoot to watch the little dogs keeping up with the big guys.

Meet Maggie

Meet Maggie, a pretty little female Bichon Frise I met yesterday morning at Centennial Park. 

Maggie was being walked by a well groomed man with a lovely accent (French maybe?), and when I asked to take her photograph, this sweet dog hopped up to look lovingly into the man's eyes, leaving two muddy paw prints on his slacks...  lucky for her she's way too cute to get mad at!

You may remember I did a post on Cotton, a male Bichon Frise a few weeks ago.  It's not that I have a thing for Bichons, it's just that they are so darn photogenic, and their owners are usually so nice, it's hard to pass them up!

Maybe we should introduce Maggie to Cotton - wouldn't they make a nice couple? :-)

Meet Cotton The Dog

I'd like to introduce you to a dog named Cotton.  Actually I just met him an hour ago myself on Orange Avenue, but his kind owner Bill allowed me to shoot Cotton's photo to share with you.

Cotton is a mature 13 years old, but he's still spry and game for his walks.  I forgot to ask, but I'm pretty sure he's a Bichon Frise.

It's almost time for the Super Bowl, and the sound of chips and salsa crunching can be heard through my house.  I'll watch sporadically, but the Super Bowl commercials are my favorite part.

Trick Or Treat

It seemed the whole town was out last night, trick or treating on Orange Avenue.  My friend Deanna took her family out looking exactly like Mona Lisa, that is until she beamed her brilliant smile! 

I loved the beautiful lady who celebrated her 92nd birthday by trick or treating with her family.  Now there's a role model for us all.

There were way too many adorable children's costumes to represent them all, but I noticed that girls were fond of the orange skirts and striped stockings this year.

Of course it wouldn't be a Coronado event without the pampered pooches.

Puppy Love - My 100th Post!

I cannot think of a better poster-child for my 100th blog post than this dapper English Bull Dog pup who came to his first soccer game yesterday.  At nine weeks old he was a big hit with the players and families, who jokingly called him our team mascot.  He belongs to another player's family, but they generously allowed the rest of us to cuddle and coo over this darling "old soul."

Children, puppies and Autumn days are a few of the wonderful, but fleeting, gifts life offers everyday... don't let them slip by without enjoying them thoroughly!

Dog Days Of Autumn

We're in the middle of a heatwave here in Southern California, and everyone is trying to stay cool.  I went for a walk at Tidelands Park this afternoon hoping to find a refreshing breeze, but found this adorable Black Labrador instead.  Her owner graciously let me take her photograph, and told me at times her tongue hangs out so far it hits her in the face when she runs!  I wish her luck staying cool.

Did you know most homes in Coronado do not have air conditioning?  That is because the ocean breeze usually moderates the temperature, and because many of us live in older (pre-war) beach cottages that were built for carefree, no-frills island living.

Coronado Farmers' Market Finds

While shopping at the Coronado Farmers' Market on Tuesday afternoon, I met this sweet little dog named Gracie.  She is a Maltese/Yorkie mix (a Morkie), with a friendly, huggable disposition.

Yes, daisies and onions are an unusual combination, but as I purchased both from my favorite vendor, Tino, I decided they were pretty enough to be blog-worthy.  Hope you agree!

Dog Beach was hopping with dogs of all sizes and breeds today.  These pooches were impressively cooperative, and quickly formed their own playful little pack.

It's a Dog's Life

I hopped off my bike and grabbed the camera when I saw these canine pals romping in the waves yesterday afternoon.  It seemed everyone was out enjoying the warm breezy day.
